Those who know Richard, know that craft beer is his passion- and quite frankly, it’s no surprise when his Untappd friends receive a notification that he has checked in the latest beer. Besides- it’s a day that ends in “Y”, right?

Richard came on to the craft beer scene in 2011, a couple of years before craft beer really started booming. The staples had already existed, from Nashville’s own Yazoo and Blackstone, to more widely distributed breweries like Blue Moon and Killians. Richard quickly found his “go-tos” in the red ale and wheat beer categories.

It wasn’t until a couple of years later that his friend (and sometimes guest host DJ) introduced him to his very first IPA: Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA… He was hooked. From that point forward, the search began to find the perfect balance between high ABV and massive hop flavors. How many hop varieties are there? It didn’t matter- Richard had to try them all… It has since become a losing battle since there are more varieties being made every single day.

Eventually, Richard turned to stouts. Initially turned off by the coffee and chocolate profiles, his friends knew they had to start “small” if they wanted to get him hooked- Since then, he has grown into the heavier stouts, and loves them to this day.

Is there a style that Richard doesn’t gravitate towards? ABSOLUTELY. Sour beers, goses, and funky sorts of beers… It’s just not his thing. He’s been surprised by a couple of goses of a small handful of breweries, and it has since become a fun game to get him to try new ones… You just never know with Richard.

Richard is 1/2 of the Foamy Heads podcast hosts, and he’s excited to share his journey with those who have a common interest.
